Difference in strength of players unions, salary cap vs no salary cap, 17 games vs 162 games, 53 player roster vs 25... mostly restrictions due to the basic numbers between NFL and MLB.

(Salary cap vs no cap is obviiuspy biggest indicator though.)

But also, it's really not US only. MLB is known for players outside the US. Little League World Series on up to MLB. It's actually been global before the NBA, and every other sport--oldest of the US pro sports.
