You clearly don’t watch the Jazz. They went as far as they were going to go with those 2. They didn’t like each other. And last I checked free agents aren’t busting the door down to go to the Jazz. What other way can they build a good team again? The draft is the only way & the NBA screwed them.
Then how does a team like Utah who never get free agents go about it? And they’ve only truly tanked once. The Spurs have tanked multiple times and they’re rewarded every single time.
It’s semantics but the Spurs haven’t tanked the last 2 years. They had injuries and they just weren’t good Wembys rookie year. They tanked for Wemby and got rewarded but I don’t believe it was in the same fashion as the Jazz. Jazz held out guys when healthy. Spurs didn’t do that.
Yep just “luck” 🤨
Keep telling yourself that.
They’ve just lucked into the best player in each of the last 2 drafts and get the 2nd pick this year. I want their “luck”
Get rid of the lottery but assign picks in reverse order based on record. Team with the most wins that didn't make the playoffs gets 1. Don't reward incompetence.
That's what's ultimately wrong. The mindset these teams think they are owed a top pick for sucking. This lottery needs to happen in all sports #stopsucking
It’s rigged. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a team lose their star player to another team and then get rewarded with the number one draft pick. Also, why not televise the process of the draft balls like normal lotteries do?
“Actively traded him in a game of chance” sure Sulai. lol, everyone knows what’s up except you. 😂…like I said, they lost their star player and the NBA gave them a new one. This isn’t the first time this has happened.
It’s been time since the day after they started it. If your team has an awful season, and they have “earned” the right to try and pick the player that could turn those fortunes around- they shouldn’t be subject to random chance of getting screwed over and subject the team or fan base to more losing
Your issue is with the legitimacy of the lottery results, not the overall intention of the lottery itself. Select media, NBA officials, representatives of the participating teams, and accounting firm Ernst & Young are present. In my opinion, it would be incredibly difficult to rig.
Absolutely, the worst four teams having a collective chance under 60% is nuts. It hasn’t discouraged tanking whatsoever. It has encouraged the NBA rigging it which is likely the real reason it was implemented in the first place
Why would it be time to change it? The league said stop tanking and these franchises did it and paid the price. The league has a competition problem. Fans tune in on a Tuesday in mid January and the stars aren’t playing and a 1/4th of the teams are sending G league guys out there.
The system is designed to stop teams from racing to the worst record. Seems dumb to change it because something we knew was possible happened. And I’m saying they as a Wizards fan who just took a gut punch.
Better model: When a team is mathematically eliminated from playoffs, you start accumulating points from zero again. Worse teams have more games to accumulate points. Highest point tally gets first pick, and so on. Everyone playing to WIN right to the end of the season. No lottery. Much better.
I’ve heard that idea and I really like it. The other idea I like is that at the end of each season every team picks another team, so for example the Jazz go first and pick the Wizards. Then next season the Jazz get the pick the Wizards would have gotten based on their record.

The selections should at the very least be televised. Whether it’s rigged or not, anytime there’s secrecy, people will be skeptical. I don’t even know…do they still use ping pong balls?
Just don’t let the hornets have the best chance, they won’t win, they never do. Every time there is a generational prospect, and they are the worst team in the league, they don’t win it. Ever.
The results are in line with the odds which aren't great no matter where a team finishes. But the lottery is achieving its goal of not rewarding tanking, which is what was desired. If the idea presented in this post is that the worst team should get the #1 pick go back to just giving it to them.

The Jazz had Mitchell and Gobert and chose the rebuild route.
But you're right, the system works. Tanking is a fine but non-guaranteed method. Jazz still get a decent pick.
Keep telling yourself that.

Because it’s rigged. Would you buy lottery ticket if they did the draw behind closed doors
The Mavericks won the lottery this year with the 11th-best odds. The Hawks won last year despite owning the 10th-best odds.

Is the lottery flawed? Probably, but these prisoner of the moment takes have to stop.
First Pick ≠ All-Star
All of the NBA Draft is luck, all of it.

They have witnesses from the affected teams.
They have witnesses that are independent journalists.
They have an accounting firm certify it.
If you still think it’s fixed, that’s on you.
