I think part of the NBA’s downfall is constantly catering to people. They think they can get to eventually watch basketball instead of just focusing on what the fans want who actually care now.

I worked at the NBA for a few years and heard "what about the fans" said exactly zero times. "Marketing and broadcast partners", about 10,000 times.
