It doesn't cause me much inconvenience when I drive around the West End of the city, and it's created a rather brilliant, and well-used, public space which re-unites the two sides of Kelvingrove Park.

To give an idea of its history, it doesn't appear as a named road on maps until the 1930s, and prior to that, it seems to have only been a pathway leading through the park, created for the 1888 Glasgow International Exhibition, and later expanded for the 1901 exhibition.

I know. I remember when I was a student in the early 1990s, it was a bit of a no-go area for pedestrians at night, and the junction with University Avenue was so poorly designed that it was an accident black spot.

Not really a fan of this closure
It funnels traffic heavily onto Byres Road (& reversing Church Street hasn’t helped). I’d guess pollutants on Byres Road have shot up because it’s almost always a chain of cars waiting for lights now
It’s also quite isolated at night now for people walking

Byres Road was terrible for traffic for years before Kelvin Way was closed, and I would actually say Kelvin way is now a lot safer at night that is used to be. The narrow pavements, poor lighting and bad reputation meant it was viewed as a bit of a no-go area when I was a student in the 1990s.
