@dtupper.com Does VRChat have plans to take payments directly, so that more of the creator economy cut can go to vrchat, rather than to the upstream platforms?

im sure when CE is successful we'll get chances to chat with them and figure out terms but this is the rules we all agreed to, so we gotta play by them
The issue is that they should be taking 30% of your revenue, not the whole thing. 30% of VRChat's cut makes sense, then you can scale your cut up accordingly. The rest of the transaction doesn't really involve them at all
They are taking 30% of their revenue. You are paying VRChat for VR-Coins through the platform you use. Whatever VRChat does with the remaining 70% is up to them, it just happens that in this case 50% of the revenue is earmarked to pay creators when they cash out.
Right, yeah. That is technically correct. But as a user/consumer, the technicalities are irrelevant. It's not the same as like... buying Blood Bonds for Hunt Showdown where everything goes to the developer, which feels fine. This feels gross, and this is why. It's not VRC's fault, but it must change
That's...exactly what is occurring here. You are effectively buying Blood Bonds from VRChat instead of Crytek. The only difference is that VRChat gives most of the money they would have made to creators.
Yes, 50% split isn't great on paper, but it's pretty peachy compared to Roblox's 25-30%.
I'm saying that the difference between "making a product and selling" it and "facilitating a transaction between others" that's not reconcilable in this model. "Rules" say so, but they were written for a different use case that looks like Blood Bonds on the surface, but is fundamentally different
From what I am reading at a certain volume valve's cut drops to 25 and then 20%, if those milestones are reached is the plan to pass on those gains to creators?
I'm aware it's SOP, but it's SOP because they were designed for different use cases that don't really apply here. It's not SOP for paypal to take 30% of what I spend at Etsy because I used their platform. Or AWS because the page was hosted there, or Google because I bought it using Chrome.
All I'm saying is that I hope someone or some group can eventually push back and create a new SOP for this type of thing, because it's not the same kind of situation

well, doing so and then directing people to do it. but even then it gets messy. what constitutes "directing"?
steam/meta/etc provide a service, they want their cut. dodging it is a good way for us to get bonked.

From their perspective, the 70% remaining is VRChat's. We then split that cut to give the majority to creators
This is SOP for platforms unfortunately
