Yes. Because the thing that famously thwarts fascists is the subtlety of definitions.
This is why democrats lose. You're doing a spelling bee while the other guys are stealing your lunch money.
(Yes, stealing is against the rules. Whatcha gonna do about it, nerd?)
The Founders were trying to prohibit any payment, gift, ANYTHING whatever, whether it be a present, a bribe, a gratuity, WHATEVER the purpose, going to a public official.
They didn't count on John Roberts, who believes all bribery is natural and should be legal, becoming chief justice.
Still, while it's a great idea, remember that the once supreme court changed the def of bribery in Citizens United 2010.
i think the PC/politically expedient term is "free speech contributions".
There's no crime if we don't report it right?
Bribery is such a ugly word,
But it sure does fit this turd!
He gets a jet from Qatar,
I’m sure their promises will go far!
He violates the Constitution one more time.
And Republicans just don’t mind!
The more I think about this the funnier it gets. I found it in Fielding’s Tom Jones. And it sounds like Mr Micawber—“I’ll gladly accept a modest emolument today for repayment next Tuesday”—but no such luck there. I’ll keep looking.👀
I dunno—it seems like precisely the kind of word certain nepobaby media masters of the universe would be snobbish about knowing. They *know*—they just don’t *care*
As recently as 1968, no one would’ve believed a disgraced former Vice-President would be elected, much less a broke-down ham of an actor, a hated Senator, a drunken coke fiend deserter, or a slow-witted lying vulgarian with a taste for adultery and pedophilia.
In all fairness to the founding fathers they had no idea how ignorant (and proud of it) the American people would become. Otherwise, the would have put more rules in about who could be president than being born in USA and how old they are.
It would no doubt be easier for Americans to get it right if the press would stop saying Trump is an "authoritarian" and just say flat-out he is a dictator.

Nothing. Pathetic.
