I know its harsh to tell neurodivergent people, "read the room" but we do need to try to do this. If you've never met me, and I am talking to your friend, that's not an in to start talking over me and insert yourself. That's not you being quirky or funny. That's rude and people hate it. 2/3

Neurospicy does NOT make it ok to barge into a conversation or in the case of VRC the middle of a circle of people having a conversation. I can't count how many times I've been talking to someone and their friend, popular or not, just slaps themselves right in between us 🙃

Introduce yourself, join circles, acknowledge EVERYONE IN THE CIRCLE. Do NOT come up to us, divide us, laser in on your one friend and nuke the vibe. Shoot them a dm, or wait for a lull in the convo to ask, "can I steal you for a second?" Yes, you are playing a game but you are not the protagonist!

I think partially the issue exists as well where voice chat desync/delay comes into play. I think people do this because they see so many others do it as well. On top of that, I've spoken this before, but its pretty evident that not all circles are open to someone new joining in.

Yep! Even if you know 1/3 of the circle, its pretty easy to later on be like, "yo I saw you but I didn't know all of y'all and I didn't wanna interrupt a tight circle." And you're right - extremely common bad social behavior that is emulated frequently. That's sorta why I finally said something.

it is crazy how often people will absolutely slide into circles and like talk to one single person & basically put their back to others, some people just act like other people in an instance are like npcs lmao, i feel like this happens more often to mutes but thats probably another story 😃👍

I think its up to the people that get visited like this to correct their offending friend and say, "hey you just closed off my conversation!" People can be told they're doing rude things without being insulted. But if we never say anything, the behavior persists.

I've lived all over the USA and there's entirely separate social faux paus in each region.

There are parts where this is the social norm, there's also places where if you're in public having a conversation and someone walks by they likely will chime in and it's ok.

I would just advise treading lightly here and making sure the vibe is an open conversation. The social norm I've seen develop in VR is for people to do this more often than they should. I've noticed that people get into alot of bad social habits in VR simply because they can get away with them.

Well I advise private conversations be had somewhere where that is more obvious, like off to the side or back as opposed to the middle of the dance floor, otherwise its easy to assume its open

Overhearing vs interrupting. Two diff things. Just because a conversation is happening near you and you can hear it, it doesn't give consent to jump into it. Doesn't matter where it is, at a rave, etc. People don't need to leave the floor to have a 1:1 to avoid interjections. Self control is key.
