as someone living in Dorset and occasionally visiting London, I never take it for granted (nor the fact that if I still lived in London I would not only have public transport but an over 60s travelcard to use it
NEWS: Miss S Coyle Cellan-Jones, socialite, said when interviewed “moi doesn’t use the Elizabeth line because moi is très posh and prefers mes parents voiture, mais these stations are cathedrals of moderne architecture, moi is très proud of moi’s adopted city”.
It’s a revelation when those of us from rural Shropshire visit London. We’re lucky to get a bus every 2 hours to the nearest town. Needless to say nearly everyone depends on cars.
To be fair, it’s London that (to some extent) pays for the rest of us. Transport infrastructure investment elsewhere would help us rebalance things, for all our sakes.
Have you visited Farringdon on the Elizabeth Line and taken the Barbican exit instead of the Farringdon exit? It has diagonal lifts and spits you out at Charterhouse Square :) Exit is either Lindsey Street or Hayne St (they swap).
(Also no chuggers there, swarms at main Farringdon exit)
We took the Elizabeth line to Heathrow to catch our flight back to Canada. As we went through Ealing, I was thinking we're soooo close to Sophie! Yes, it really is a very efficient way to get to Heathrow.
You’re not wrong there, Mr Cellan-Jones. Every journey on the Elizabeth Line feels like a celebration of all that’s possible when talent and #creativity are properly funded.
It’s a revelation! From South Oxfordshire to Stratford in under 90 minutes door to door thanks to the Elizabeth Line. Now time for those in the North to feel some love though. We’re spoilt! Even if we forget.
I live in Bolton and can only dream on walking down some stairs at the end of my street. Waiting 2 minutes for a tube and knowing for almost certain that I will arrive at my destination 15 miles away in 50 minutes for about £3. I don’t begrudge you it but I wish we had 1 tenth of that infrastructure
I’ve had two trips from Swansea to London recently. My god, it puts the under-investment in Welsh transport into perspective. It makes me angry. We’re living on crumbs from the table down here.
I live in rural Ish Scotland our buses are every hour during the week and stop after 22.23, Sunday is every 3 hrs, last Saturday of the month is free travel otherwise it’s £8.50 all day travel. When folk in London complain I refrain from asking if they want to swap lol. I am a non driver
I was speaking to one of my US colleagues today at work as she was mesmerized by it - especially how Moorgate/Liverpool Street are the same station and connected by the long escalators when using the 'Lizzy Line' - we're very fortunate to get around to different parts of London with the Tube!
Hey Rory; Agree with one caveat. That being, Shane that those on the perimeter have to rely on rotten local overground services. Bring on nationalisation.

Meanwhile, in the rest of the country... not so much
Up north west barely have any bus services never mind shiny underground!
(Also no chuggers there, swarms at main Farringdon exit)
Here in West Yorks I have a bus an hour into the nearest city, if it turns up.
You’re lucky in London.
