French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said that the EU won't allow other countries to attack their sovereign borders, in response to US President-elect Donald Trump's refusal to rule out military force to take Greenland.

The good thing is though, that the fierce debate and disgust about the coming US president humiliating its historically closest partners, may divert the attention on the promises he was elected on.
No need to panic about Trump and Greenland. We (I’m Danish) have in writing, that USA respects the Danish possession (see below) 😉. Lansing was conservative and pro-business, right up his ally. He was a Democrat, but don’t tell Trump.
However, Denmark and Greenland should consider a sale on similar terms as the sale of the Danish West Indies in 1917 (25 mio DKK in gold for 346 km2).
With the same price per km2, the Danish realm can cash in about 2200 billion US Dollars. A respectable sum.
We have a full blown mad man as Pres who thinks he’s a king. But, this is what MAGA wanted for this country. It was clear to see before Nov 5 but they wanted it anyway. They chose hate & division over connection & decency.
People correctly point out that Trump is ignorant, but here we should also point out the ignorance of Barrot: Greenland does not fall within the sovereign borders of the EU.
Oh yes! Europe will defend Greenland with a few planes bought from the US. Of course, if the US doesn't have a secret button to remotely turn them off on the ground, or more funnily, during flight. And 3 years have passed without the launch of war production...
That doesn't change the fact that since the end of the cold war, EU countries relied and surrendered their defense to the USA and chose to not invest in their own military power because the USA was there. I know this won't happen, but the EU must become more autonomous in terms of defense
Would mean more spending by the other members. So yeah, we could pull it off. We don’t need the USA, they need us more (trade, defensive capabilities against China…).

If Barrot wants to say that France as an ally of Denmark will help protect Greenland, then fair enough.
But here he seems to be suggesting that France will protect Greenland, a fellow EU nation.
