Israeli forces killed more than 64,000 people in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023 — meaning the widely reported death toll was underestimated by 41 percent, a major study published yesterday in The Lancet found.

Note even this number does NOT count Palestinians killed by absent medical services, starvation, nor whose bodies remain unrecoverable under the rubble.
Good lord Politico, you are lending your credibility to boost an article in the Lancet based on unreliable online surveys, Hamas disinformation and social media posts? The same Lancet that’s been a stronghold of anti-vax voodoo science and other fringe theories? At least report the other side:
If you wish to get another perspective you may check accounts as Andrew Fox, and if you closed X go to his Substack. There are others, and you don’t need to love him to at least look for other voices …
I don’t see how they come to such a result in any reliable way. It is known that the Hamas-provided numbers are way to high, with records showing double entries, false counts, unrealistic demographic proportions etc. Hamas also omits to count militants and address natural deaths.
Whatever the awful death toll is, be clear that none of this death and destruction would have happened if Gaza hadn’t started a genocidal war against Israel on October 7, 2023. Gaza should have surrendered a long time ago yet they prosecute this war for the headlines your eagerly provide.
