Spain wants a carve-out from NATO's likely future defense spending goal of 5 percent of GDP, Pedro Sánchez said ahead of next week's high-stakes alliance summit in The Hague.

Ah, but jeopardizing our social security systems, curtailing international aid, defunding and pushing back the green transition are precisely the things that Trump's fascist billionaire backers want to see happen.
Some people on here seem to think that 'conflicts' are different to wars. Gaza,Yemen, Ukraine etc.
Any military situation where civilian casualties
outweigh armed forces deaths that's war in my language.
5% is bonkers. Even at the height of cold war nobody spent this much. We across Europe can barely afford 3% without either cut social security, raise taxes or increase debt enormously.
It's all a show for Sánchez allies inside his government. A true clown, he's trapped by shameful corruption scandals, the coallition is cracking and he needs their support any possible way to remain in power, even cheating and turning away from european compromises.
Ya empezaron otra vez Sánchez. Quieren estar en todo como el arroz pero sin cooperar. Quieren lo mejor pero sin gastar. Me pregunto si en verdad están alineados.
They do this. Groups of bullies all rolling up their sleeves and glaring at each other, winding each other up, with the full knowledge that THEIR arses won't be in danger. Hiding in safety, playing god. Pathetic. I'm with Spain and not falling for it. Fight it out yourselves, old white men!
It has concerned/concerns/will concern Southern Europe for long time. The issue is that it seems to concern only to them, not to their Northern allies/parterns and media. Funnily the same people asking now for "solidarity" are the same that shouthed "No art. 222", "No solidarity clause" in 2010.
I think people are not aware Spain’s economy is around the size of Russia’s. Spain spending 5% would be a higher defense budget than Russia in 2022, without nuclear weapons. This is completely nonsensical.

Here's a table of immigrants per 1000 population, which doesn't suggest what you say is very likely.
estamos todos juntos en esta batalla contra russia
no aceptamos un mas flaco que los otros
Aren't Russians already carrying out hybrid operations there? There have been several assassinations and no follow-up afaik

5% is Dimentia Demented Don'Trump Trump's Fantasy!
🤮
Trump wants to pull out of NATO. He takes orders from Moscow.
So yes, no help from US either way
Russia's presence in Africa is also destabilizing and causes refugee flows. How come that doesn't concern Southern Europe?
