Astonishingly, poetically well written (and very chonky) fantasy epic about a Middle East-inspired land of clans & forgotten magic & the mapmaker who is destined to save it. One of the best debuts I've ever read in indie or trad - the height of worldbuilding
Witty "diplomatic side quest" political spy thriller fantasy about a charismatic/annoying envoy (take your pick) & his long-suffering fighter friend who uncover a plot to invade their land. For fans of witty but dark and character-focused fantasy
Urban horror fantasy about a supernatural York which keeps the monsters at bay & the witch & her Buffy-style posse who kill them... or protect them. Chilling, atmospheric prose and atmosphere combined with witty dialogue & found family vibes. Superb.
I've just finished this one today funnily enough & I'm already a fervent fan of this author. Old school swords & magic fantasy with modern day pace & wonderfully varied worldbuilding, and EXTREMELY accurate sword combat. Such addictive storytelling.
If you like fantasy noirish mysteries - & you should, 1 of the best sub-genres - then you will eat up the 1st book in this series about a second-rate mage investigating gods & murders. Snarky dialogue you could read all day & inventive magic.
Big indie hit of last year for good reason - this debut about a mushroom city colonised by humans & the human/mushroom detective duo investigating a murder in it is gritty, compelling & has some of the most original worldbuilding you'll ever see.
