i suspect many people are afraid AI tools will make it into Godot.

considering Godot is open source and both contributors and the foundation are adamant about ‘design by consensus’, if you all keep voicing your concerns and objections about AI, it’s very unlikely a PR with genAI will be merged.

I'm not sure the concern can be legitimate when local AI models of any power require space, memory and computing power Godot does not generally target. Nor would they ever integrate some cloud service when they don't have the resources and 3rd party closed source APIs are not compatible with FOSS.

So the opposition to taking AI money is entirely vibes based. I wish people would express concern less and fund Godot more so Godot folks could actually choose from whom to take the money. They're not exactly flush with cash and funding has dropped significantly in recent months.

one point of criticism i do have is the lack of transparency regarding sponsorship agreements. it would be great if the foundation could state publicly what is and isn’t part of these agreements. eg. i wouldn’t appreciate AI and gambling companies buying roundtable time with board members or whatevr

I dont think any corporate donator cam "buy" feature in Godot.

In Blender there is a few addon about Gen AI, which Godot will probably have with the Asset Store (think there is a ChatGPT asset already).

But sure it wont be "core" feature.

idk, i’m firmly in the camp of ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ & although the foundation aren’t beggars, their resources are so limited and the community so loud about wanting it to grow… how can they say no?

In any case, in one year if they dont renew, logo is gone.

I mean, as long as it is not to bad : porn, violence, ect.

Sponsors have absolutely zero influence over the project.
They donate money with no strings attached, and in exchange they get a logo placement and a one time shoutout as a courtesy (if they want one).

I do agree that it needs to be made more explicit as it's widely misinterpreted.
