Russia could, tomorrow, pull its forces back to the 2014 border and literally no party believes that Ukraine would actually pursue them into actual Russian territory, and the war would be over. That's a choice Russia's government doesn't make, every day at at the cost of much blood

Well, there is something to be said about the rather perilous situation this would put Putin in, and it is unilaterally his decision if I'm not mistaken. But it is indeed his own fucking problem he decides to alleviate, every day, with literal murder of literal civillians.
