It seems, at times, we have spawned into an ideological schism where analytical thought is on one side and semi-hysteria is on the other, as if “philosophers” are descending into the realm of abstract reading only. But that could be my pessimism coming through. Why do you think?

Unfortunately analytical thought has declined as reactionary politics has surged. Oddly, polling shows overwhelming support for progressive policies yet progressives get annihilated at the polls. This apparent voter cognitive dissonance is the result of bias conditioning by news media.

Hmm I think everyone ultimately still relies on analysis (and synthesis!), it’s just that MAGA is caught in an epistemic echo chamber. Partially their fault on an individual level, for sure, but it’s also a billion-dollar machine built for this exact purpose…

This tension has been evident since Socrates’ execution. Complex ideas are not easily digestible for the masses, and corrupted by competing influences. Propaganda, as described by Jacques Ellul, is a way to bridge that gap, but it too must compete against power dynamics to shape public perception.
