In fact only one ship fire has conclusively been proven to be started by an EV. That was a Scandinavian ferry in 2010 and the car was found to be a home converted to electric Nissan Qashqai.
He was charging - report says owner was allowed to connect his car to a 220 volt socket on the ship's car deck to charge the car's battery during the voyage.
