These local election results are mana from heaven for the Scottish independence movement, and anyone trying to convince you otherwise should be sectioned.

We are getting Far Right Farage or a tory/Reform coalition in 29, given Labour's right wing policies.
Get out while you can.
But be prepared for an exodus of left wing people from England (many of us will be refugees from the Trump type policies).
Building consistent and sizable majority support is the only viable route to applying pressure on UK Govt, frankly. Debates over process have been putting the cart before the horse.
For a few years, a certain type of commentator - including academics that I respect - have been trying to spin the line that a Labour govt would kill the SNP/indy. With a year to go to Holyrood 2026, the opposite is true.
Kenny was arguing recently that Swinney should refuse to become First Minister if the winning margin comes from Reform votes in Holyrood. At some point columnists need to engage with reality, surely?
That ‘if’ weighs as much as Pluto. We know what they are, they’re significantly further right than under Blair and the local election results won’t change that either. They’re likely toast at the next GE. I’d expect some bastard child of Tories and Reform to take power then. Scotland needs OUT!
Labour & Tory HQs aren’t unionists. They care about winning General Elections. They think that means winning middle England. Which for 40+ years has meant, to the HQs, winning people who read the right wing press. Scotland is 50-odd seats that I’d be amazed if they spent 2 minutes considering.
As I read elsewhere, the current Labour lot were good at defeating the left, mainly when they had the media on their side. They’re not so hot challenging the far right…
The biggest risk was always that a Labour gov would prove the ‘problem’ was Westminster (not just the Tories) - I was always surprised at how many commentators failed to recognise that

I also hoped but didn't expect to be grudgingly respectful of their achievements. No such luck.
