Nope. Auschwitz was Auschwitz. It existed of a couple of camps, all in the same area. Not scattered across Poland. True, there were more camps in Poland. They were not called Auschwitz.
I feel like many Americans don't recognize any horrific authoritarian regime other than Nazi Germany. And they go straight there. No Pol Pot, no Stalin, no Maoist China,no European colonials in Africa, etc.
Oh yes! I totally agree. Sadly, there are too many to count. I think the US cares about Germany for many of the same reasons this is even happening here. also, because we feel like w/ WW2 we did the “right thing”. We kind of half heartedly tried everywhere else but either stayed out or made a mess
I know because because I have fairly large list of family members killed there. (But not just there. Also Sobibor. Which wasn’t Auschwitz, but it was Poland.)
Yes, those of us from Eastern Europe had famiy members who were killed by the Einsatzgruppen---shot and thrown into pits outside of myriad towns, shtetls, cities in all those countries.
ONE MILLION people.
The Holocaust by Bullets.
Jews in Ukraine were killed in Ukraine. Jews in Belarus were killed in Belarus, Jews in Besarabia (Moldova) were killed in Besarabia, etc.
Jews of Eastern Europe were killed where they lived.
Outside of there towns and cities, shot into pits.
One million.

But I agree with other folk here. The point is lack of due process. Pointing to nazi germany is obvi, but it’s not exactly the same.
Germany invaded Poland (the land of the “backwards farmer”) for lebensraum, not just for death camps.
But, yes, lebensraum---and a larger bread basket.
1. Where most Jews lived before the war started.
2. Where those people were killed.
Answers:
1. In Poland and the Soviet Union.
2. In Poland and the Soviet Union.
In September 1941, in just two days, nearly 34,000 Jews from Kyiv were shot and dumped in a pit just outside Kyiv.
They weren't put on a train and sent over 1,200 km westwards to Germany.
The first 1.1 million victims of the Holocaust were murdered like that. No trains, no camps.
At the start of WW2 there were 3.5 million Jews in Poland and 240,000 Jews in Germany.
960,000 Jews were murdered at Auschwitz, which was on former Polish territory annexed by Germany.
170,000 German Jews were murdered in the Holocaust _as a whole_, not just at Auschwitz. Do the maths.
ONE MILLION people.
The Holocaust by Bullets.
Jews of Eastern Europe were killed where they lived.
Outside of there towns and cities, shot into pits.
One million.
As you say, no trains, no camps.
