I am a senior on a fixed income and cannot afford pet insurance. I have an elderly cat, as well. I just wish vets would take payments occasionally. Long time ago I had a vet that would in certain cases. I understand that it’s a risk, though.

Human tests cost much more, they’re just covered by insurance. Vets have just as extensive education and just as much student debt as doctors. They just get paid a lot less. I don’t know what you mean by “in the wrong profession“, unless you want longer hours and less money.

If a joke is shared on social media, though, isn't it now public? Sorry for the bad vibe, but in a job with all the school and debt of human doctors, a fraction of the pay, and many paying off student debt into their 40's, hearing repeated snarks about being greedy and overpaid starts to rankle.

I hate to say it because I generally find vets to be more compassionate than human doctors, but at the same time the business model for vets feels soooo scammy.

There's a lot of corporate concentration & buyouts happening in the veterinary industry, which is driving treatment costs up & making it harder for independent vets to stay in business. i wish i could remember this really excellent article i read about it a couple years ago
