the real genre of warhammer 40k, like many long-running IPs, is wikislop: fiction where access to the full context needed to understand any given story is so inconvenient to obtain that going to a secondary source, like a wiki, ends up preferable.

AI slop and wikislop synergize because generating a wikislop story is just a matter of following a standard story structure as you expand on an incident that's already been described in wikislop summary form
It's quite frustrating that I can't recommend Actually Good WH40k novels to people who aren't familiar with the setting already because of all the outside context needed. Not even The Infinite & The Divine, which is otherwise legitimately good science fiction in it own right, clears this bar.
Same with Spears of the Emperor. Good character drama, but if you don't know about the Rubicon you're going to be as confused as a moose in a rainforest.
and I empathize, I do, but also, what do you fucking mean there’s no lore bible. I’ve played video games with better-assembled, centralized lore for the METAFICTION INSIDE THE GAME

Though the way the Mortal Realms work is still really fuckin weird to figure out.
