these people are thankfully in minority but i dont get deltarune chapter 3 haters. its so fun and cool. unique and varied presentation alone elevates it in my eyes but its far from the only thing it has going for it.

it comes down to being really short compared to past and future chapters and how much of your time is taken up by the boards (which you need to ace or replay if you want S rank). i didn't hate chapter 3, but i think it's definitely the weakest one so far with some high highs and some ehh lows
eh chapter 1 is probably shorter and weaker overall still for me. unless you play the game for the first time and get accustomed to it, there's not much to a lot of it's areas.
i do agree that i don't like how in ch3 they handled board-ranking bits, hopefully this get patched somehow.
if we're judging chapter 3 on just the gameplay contents of it, i think it's pretty good. despite my complaint about the boards going on for too long, they're a treat to the eyes and ears, especially when doing the secret content. the link's awakening fan in me was having a category 7 autism event
it's just they make the pacing kinda wonky. you go from existentialism to shenanigans which make up most of the chapter, to the one and only regular gameplay segment. even if it ties into the escapism themes it's kinda ??? as game design. i get why toby fox felt the need to scrap the third board
Chapter 3 was a bit too linear for me, its like if Queens mansion from chapter 2 got stretched out to fill an entire chapter and I think the puzzles were too anchored to the zelda minigame to make it as interesting (it could grow on me who knows)
I do enjoy the chapter but it’s the weakest chapter for few reasons
1. Other than Tenna there’s no new major characters which sucks cuz just look at chapter 2 and how it had Noelle Berdly and Queen bouncing off each other perfectly Tenna was Goated but he should’ve had someone else to bounce off of
2. Toriel was asleep for the whole chapter which I didn’t like cuz I genuinely wanted to see her interact with the Dark World and Ralsei
3. The 8-bit Zelda style gameplay was cool at first but got really boring and old after a while and I don’t like that it took up so much of the game
I just started chapter 4 because I couldn't stop replaying chapter 3 lmao
I love how I was finding something new in each replay, and also getting an S-rank isn't as hard as they say, you just have to get enough points and not fuck up the minigame. Also the quest for the shadowmantle was super cool
Getting S-rank in itself is not hard, I just wish there was either an option to replay the round or the game made it more clear that there will be benefits to getting higher rank (one of the early NPCs misleadingly tells you that there are no consequences)
But yeah its very fun otherwise
I think by the time Deltarune is finally said and done, Chapter 3 is still gonna end up being silliest/least serious Chapter in the game and I'm completely cool with that cuz it was so much fun
Not to say the Chapter is NEVER serious or story focused but those elements take a backseat for the most part. Tenna is still a really sad character when you think about it
the shadow mantle quest really made me feel like im playing real creepypasta and i LOVE that so much. toby fox made me feel unease playing a zelda reference
when i first played through it i had a lot of fun but i wasnt entirely sure how i felt about it as a whole. but i think tenna's boss fight is where everything clicked together for me. such an amazing climax and one of the best bosses in the game imo

both chapters serve those roles well while still supplementing aspects if the other
