They can have all the platform they like, I can't stop them. But I have a right to be unhappy with what they say. Why are you so bothered by what I think? Why not go after others who have expressed their dislike of them? Am I a particular threat to them or something? I'm just one guy.
I do find it curious you seem to have beef with my critique of them. As if you don't think I have the right to criticise. Because if that's the case, then that's hypocrisy.
Of course you do, and I'm not saying you shouldn't. I have no 'beef' with you, I'm simply having an SM exchange about it. I know these things can across wrong so think of it this way: we bumped into each other in the pub and had a chat, that's all.
What do I think? TBH I don't know much about CFT, specifically (or indeed other groups). From what I do see, there are few things I probably don't agree with. But I don't have an issue with them saying what they want and where, really. It's not that big a deal.
I think the broader issue with CFT is that they have suggested we have separate sections for ‘tourists’ and ‘real fans.’ How exactly are they planning to decide who is a ‘tourist’ in the ground and what that term means? I don’t care about their polls. I do care about them trying to push division.
I know people who live in Newcastle and follow us home and away. This whole tourist thing is absolute nonsense. Loads of Koreans I've seen make more noise than middle-aged moaners, and they only get tickets because 'real fans' put them on the exchange.
Unfortunately, CFT have made their issues with ‘tourists’ a key sticking point and have genuinely suggested separate sections in the ground for those they deem ‘tourists.’ They have not answered questions on what they mean by that word.
Honestly, I'm taking this summer off all this. Europa, Carabao semis, league games. It's been a lot. Plus Starmer is still Reforming away, plus AI and everythjng else...
In that sense, I do find it disappointing that they’re the ones invited to represent the fans in broadcast media. There are many of us that do not have an issue with people from far and wide coming to support our club and we don’t want divided, different fan sections in the ground.
If intentional it's a stretch. But the "othering" stuff about tourists is straight out of the playbook. I suspect it's unwitting, but still doesn't make it alright and hopefully they pack that in.
I’m all for mobilisation against the ticket prices and cutting the concessions for seniors. But their decision to pick a fight with other fans, those they deem ‘tourists’ means they come across as unsavoury to me. Which is a shame bc we could do with a stronger fan movement to keep greed in check
We're not talking Farage and Reform, here, are we? No fan group is really that representative; the closest that comes to it are supporters trusts (supporters clubs in old money) national organisations like the FSA, and better IMO on issues such as ticketing, safety etc. Stuff about manager in or out
is pretty much pub chat on a different platform. Are Arsenal Fan TV 'representative' of Arsenal's fanbase for eg? In some aspects, yes, but also no, and I think most fans (of AFC or otherwise) see that. Same will apply to CFT, I expect, though I could be very wrong and not for the first time.
I increasingly find myself thinking I don't 'get' football fans anymore, so maybe it's me who's changed. Anyway, nice conversing with you Hal, as ever.
I appreciate the posts. I don't really getany fans either (the predominantly angry, excessively negative ones, mostly), but most of the interaction I have with them is via social media, where views get polarised easily. I'm honestly not that bothered by CfT specifically.
Totally agree with this, they don't represent "us" as fans, just a group of some fans. And from what I've seen (a little but not loads) it's a pretty broad grouping with fairly broad/vague aims/demands.
Doing a poll now seems odd to me, but, also, don't really care..let them do them..
