Now that I’m on a platform where people actually see and engage with my posts again, I cannot wait to do my annual holiday book recommendations thread. Y’all are going to get bookskyed so hard.

Also, all of these portmanteaus where we tack “sky” at the end of a word are getting pronounced like the “sky” in “husky” or pesky” in my head, and I’m not sorry.
That’s why I said absolutely not. My ex husband wasn’t pleased but I finally put my foot down. I was a doormat for a long time. It took having kids for me to grow a backbone.
I read 30 min. Every morn b4 work… and then when I get home. I’m ready for some good read recs… Year of the Locust was awful, btw. The Housekeepers…okay.
Yes was sooo invisible on X would put so much into it and get nothing back. Ugh. I don't mind doing the work to build a following but their verification nonsense was bs.
And for those like myself who are low income and barely employed? If you want access to books for free? Become a reviewer on good reads. Author will sometimes give you free and advanced copies of their books in exchange for book reviews. If you love to read and write, it’s one way to get access.
It has since come to light who owns good reads and it seems that there are alternatives to it that don’t involve supporting that named individual. It goes to show that if you are anything like me and you just type your thoughts as you think them? You may find yourself having to learn to breathe.
Of course, in my area? My local government tried to close half of the local libraries by cutting their funding to try and balance the books after a budget crisis. But point taken, i have to learn to research things before sending out messages. And it’s still a good point.
Nice! I’ll follow you then! I was raised by scientists who loved Tolkien and Arthur C Clarke. So I’ll read about Dragons or spaceships (dragons on spaceships?). Favorite sci-fi series ever is The Expanse (books AND show).
I'm looking for some about political advocacy, building community, redlining, feminism, how to survive fascism, etc. Currently reading The Purpose of Power by Alicia Garza and I'm really into it! Anything that's similar 🥰
One day I'll stop rereading comfort books and tackle my ever growing "to read" stack....let's make that stack more impressive while we wait for that day to come.
Okay, hear me out: The World Without Us. It’s about the science of what would happen to the planet and our infrastructure if humans just…stopped. It helped inspire Neil Druckmann’s The Last of Us.
Yes to the first two. I read project Hail Mary and I listened to the audio book. The listen is fantastic if you haven't. Last astronaut is going on the list.
I'm reading Demon Copperhead. Intense! I have to force myself to put it down and convince myself that I don't know the main character, nor have I ever!
I have not! I should specify, this is a list for holiday shopping, rather than holiday reading, but hopefully still enjoyable. Thanks for the rec, though—others will also appreciate it.
Wait, that's a thing? YES, please and thank you! 🥰 I miss getting good book recommendations that are not about making money, by selling me a book. 💖 Instant follow!
Any good books to suggest? I love dystopian novels and political books. I just finished White Rage. Great historical book on voting and civil rights from post civil war till present.
Check out the 2020 edition of Bowling Alone. Caste, by Isabel Wilkerson. Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler. Ministry for the Future, Kim Stanley Robinson. Station Eleven, Emily St. John Mandel. On Tyranny, Timothy Snyder.
If self Rec okay, my Kidnapped by the Krampus =#1 Amazon bestseller last holiday season! Get your LGBTQIA+ monster romances before we’re banned🤣We’ll be the first to go
