Still astonished that Nintendo actually okayed an official vinyl release of an older game soundtrack, but I’m not complaining about new (old) Retronauts Radio material

Soichi Noriki’s interpretive and transformative jazz arrangements are such a perfect illustration of what the Japanese were doing long before OCR and the fan arrangement scene (makes me wonder why some VGM fans complain about that approach). Would love to know how Noriki was tapped for his part! :-)
As far as permission, total guess, but it may have only involved HMV Record Shop getting approval from Warner Music Japan, and not needing Nintendo. -L
Been enjoying it quite a bit and the jazz covers are very relaxing. Nice to finally have mario 1-world soundtrack officially on vinyl. As for this release it’s similar to the Mother OST where WBJ still has the rights to this soundtrack so it can be republished at will with Big N getting their cut.
