Counterpoint: Newsom always sucked, and I'm glad he's making it perfectly obvious for everyone who didn't see it until now. Will save us a lot of trouble in 2028.

Pelosi has been in Congress since the dawn of time, but there were a lot of other SF / CA Dem luminaries on the board of supervisors after the Gettys, the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, and Willie Brown got him his seat (Brown appointed him to a seat after he did fundraising for Brown)
I don't think it's accurate to call SF a Democratic machine town, in part because "machine" implies a level of quid pro quo that is mostly absent. That said, I think it's undeniable that Newsom is a product of SF's very real patronage politics and has spent his political career failing upwards.
I know he sucks, but he is popular and would probably have won the presidency in a landslide. And yeah, I'll take even a bad democrat over this mess right now. So who do we run instead?
If it's simple, then name one. I can think of lots of people who don't suck, and I can think of some people who can probably win elections, but the intersection of those two circles is the hard part.
any high-profile democrat who’s not chumming it up with nazis (or, like cuomo, a sex predator). we are not exactly going to be hurting for options when it comes to candidates who can mop up trump after this train wreck
I love Whitmer, but do you think it is smart to run another woman in the near future? Unfortunately it seems we are still a country of racist sexist dinosaurs
We had 30 candidates in the 2020 primaries. How many of them do you think could have won the election? While I liked and supported quite a few of them, I doubt any one of them ever had a serious shot. If anyone, the biggest assholes like Bloomberg or Schultz could have pulled it off.
