LAWSUIT: Guards videotaped strip searches at Michigan women’s prison. "What these women continue to endure is nothing short of horrific. This case exposes a grotesque abuse of power that directly retraumatizes survivors of sexual assault."

How are we supposed to trust LE? It is getting so hard to even give them the benefit of the doubt. I believe in my heart that most are decent & doing a good job...but then..this..& ICE...&I Can't breathe...&on &on &on. Why doesn't LE police itself & keep the monsters out or get other jobs?
At this point I kinda want to burn down what passes for our correctional system and start fresh with consultants from countries that:
a) don't legalize slavery in their prisons and don't profit from it
b) have low recidivism rates
We pay so much for such trash, we should have better
This makes me think about the push for law enforcement to be able to confirm genitals at bathrooms, for suspected trans people it sure sounds like a short cut to this kind of despicable crime.
WTF is wrong with the people of this country??! Have we abandoned all sense of morals and common decency? I can’t afford to leave the US, but maybe I can’t afford NOT to…
Male guards at women’s prison should barely exist. Maybe have a few on the outside, and called in if things get violent. They shouldn’t be allowed to supervise over women in their cells.
I mean, the reference I'm thinking about comes from a case where a woman with unpaid parking tickets was cavity-searched in front of many police officers. The argument was that there was no justification for the harm caused by the search.
That’s fair and obviously a cavity search following unpaid parking tickets is crazy, but if women are being cavity searched for whatever reason, it’s “better” that there is a video record of it.
I can grab the suit's name if you want. But loss of privacy should be proportionate and related to the harm or suspected harm. I'd argue that for many women, videotaping a search increases the psychological harm. Causing harm to increase oversight is a tough argument
I’m not sure how widespread cavity searches are in this facility, and we can debate how valuable and/or necessary they are, but if they are conducted it’s probably good practice to memorialize it…for everyone’s safety.
If you really wanted to prevent abuse by using oversight, there would need to be a serious discussion about the ethics of further violating someone's privacy balanced against the potential oversight. Do we know if that ever happened?
Wow! That’s bad! How horrible. So law enforcement AND corrections officers are pieces of shit! Actually already knew both were, at least most of them. Ex-hubby is a MDOC officer at a min security men’s prison and the stories he’s told about fellow officers made my blood boil!

No surprise. There's certainly more that just hasn't been uncovered yet
all men do is terrible things! it’s time to put the god damn women in charge if we want humanity as a whole to survive.
That’s the point, that is always the point.
“Let’s watch again”
Why are the good cops not speaking up???
He must be in on the deal.
