Back in 1977 our pediatrician gave me a bottle of fluoride and told me to put a drop on my infant daughter’s tongue once a week for 4 weeks. That girl has never had a cavity. But this was before they realized the other side effect could be black teeth. Fortunately she did not get that.

In Australia the dentist can tell what state you grew up in (or if your grew up on tank/bore water) by the pattern of caries. Nearly all people with upper and lower molar restorations under 40 needed them due to caries from unfluridated water

This is a nearly wholly preventable disease burden

Ryan, friend, you mean well, Fluoridation done right is a generally good thing, RFK is a wacko, but Fluoride CAN be toxic if the concentration is off. The NYT article is not some wacko screed but gives a balanced report on the concern. Fluoridation is not Commie plot, but it can be done wrong.

Dentist POV: dental caries in kids is already very common, and removing fluoride in water will lead to even more caries, infection, tooth loss. More missed school, and more expensive to fix.
