See if your local library offers the Libby app. You can use it to borrow ebooks and audiobooks. Hoopla offers similar but it seems that the books are older.
Check your library! I haven’t had to buy an e-book in ages. Our library here in Ottawa Canada even shares access to other Ontario library’s ebooks through Libby. Lots of great Jodi Picoult!
Second hand bookshops for solid copies? Real and virtual. In the UK World of Books is particularly good.
