If you grew up poor like I did, REALLY poor, I have an idea. I feel like come January there will be a lot more people struggling with no experience, so what is some advice you'd give the Nouveau-Broke?

Grow whatever you can! Even an herb box in a kitchen window can help save.
Unplug electronics when they aren’t in use.
Vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice can be fantastically versatile.
Only buy the groceries you need—make a budget before you go! Utilize your leftovers.
Pre plan meals & only shop for the specific things you will need for them. Portion out leftovers and freeze them for quick meals or you’re short on cash for the week.
Shop with coupons like you are one of those crazy coupon people. Use ads to help plan meals based off what’s on sale.
Laundry mats can be a necessity for some, but they add up. You will actually save using the bulk washers and doing more at once and hang dry what you can. Also skip dryer sheets, get a wool ball instead. Also powder detergent is cheap and works.
Many electric plans come with a "free after x time" offer. Use that time to run things like washers/dryers and dishwashers if you have them. In summer it helps your ac not run as much because it's cooler, and in the winter helps keep things warm.
Go to the library! They have activities for kids, wifi, all sorts of information, and often they have ways of helping you find programs for assistance or even jobs/job training! AND IT'S ALL FREE! Public Libraries are a sanctuary
THRIFT STORES especially for babies and children. They grow so fast it's insane to spend a small fortune on their clothing that will only last a season. Also don't be afraid to ask for hand me downs from family with older kids.
Also, find something you're good at that you can TRADE. I can fix your radiator if you take a look at my leaky sink sort of thing. I'll trade you this home made bread for eggs, etc. Being able to know who does what in your community can be a life saver.
Also, GENERIC BRANDS! I cannot stress enough that 9/10 it is THE SAME PRODUCT often made in THE SAME FACTORY with different labels and prices. Always go generic.
For example:
Get a prepaid cellphone plan. There is 💯 no reason you should be going through a carrier. Verizon wanted 200 a month for just my partner and I back in like 2011. We got straight talk, and it's $75 a month. MASSIVE difference
