This is a little scary: "The athletics program begins operating in full compliance with NCAA Division III bylaws, except for the allowance of certain student-athletes to retain their athletic scholarship."

If it's not all of them...yikes. (And D3 still has zero ahtletic scholarships, right?)

My guess is that it refers to students who were offered their scholarships when the school was still a D1 institution

D3 is no athletic scholarships, yes.

Although they're usually pretty good about making up a lot of the lack of athletic money with merit or academic scholarships.

technically they made the announcement in '99 that they were going for it. They actually won the Big South in 2004 but weren't tournament eligible. Then in spring of 2006 the new president announced they were dropping to DIII because they couldn't afford D1 - but then they *added* football
