This is your friendly reminder that generative A.I. is not "intelligence" and it's not the "wave of the future."
No.
Large Language Models (LLMs) are super-expensive bullshit machines that suck up a fuck-ton of stolen data, including private info and creative content, in order to badly mimic it.

That's why they're expensive, broken, and in a constant arms race for dominance.
The lesson is the same as always: billionaires shouldn't exist.
BILLIONAIRES SHOULDN'T EXIST!
Ego flattering yet useful.
You will never convince me that we ought to subcontract our most important and needful functions to some programming inferior to the human mind.
You go on depending on A.I.-generated text and images...
and I'll keep loudly talking shit on the thinking machines that steal our ideas and regurgitate them in a much shittier iteration.
We rebel against the incursion of A.I. in our lives in order to preserve HUMAN CHOICE.
Okay.
They TRIED to automate the process in an unregulated market, but we know how that turned out. It was a scam's worst-kept secret.
Someone saw dollar signs on flash games like that and thus began a scam.
Cool, it might be easier just to admit when you're wrong, in furute.
HUMAN CHOICE is the ultimate power, and the problem with things like LLMs is that they lull the eager and the unwitting into surrendering the ability to critique, to doubt, to choose, to create... to a machine, of all fucking things.
Not only are folks ceding that mental acuity, choice, etc… it’s not to EVEN to a real AI. How embarrassing!

Perhaps we should spend less time wondering about whether ChatGPT is intelligent or not and more time on remedial reading classes.
An algorithm fed symbols cannot think because an algorithm cannot experience existence.
Ask an algorithm about "love." It will recite what it's been fed.
Ask a human about love and the human struggles because the experience "love" is beyond the symbolic description of words.
It's a popularity contest. Most likely answer from the stolen data based on how many agree.
Old tech saying we had was "garbage in, garbage out".
It's based on the fetid piles of shit we've dumped online since the '90s. No good comes from it.
Way overhyped but incredible at the same time.
I think several of the people who laud its future are people who work in its development... and they're not willing to acknowledge that they're essentially engineers on the Death Star construction project.
Idk, when you put it like that it sounds eerily human. That’s *exactly* what we do with information 😬
I fear we (humanity) opened Pandora’s box and it’ll be hell to close 😮💨
but the human mind, used even with a scintilla of its capacity, can doubt, rebel, reject, adapt, JUDGE.
AND from those abilities, cobbling both from the weight of experience and imagination, it can CREATE.
A.I. is merely running probabilities and pretending to mimic that capacity.
But it’s still scary af that tech bros think they can and are trying their damndest to build something nearly human but not
It's like they resent having never mastered basic social skills, and their revenge will be the destruction of all human society.
Hence why they all perform the most cringe-worthiest public mimicry of humanity... like aliens wearing ill-fitting skin suits.
We can all FEEL the assaults on our humanity. We are dehumanized. We are exhausted. We strive and struggle, and while our struggles are inherently noble, nobility doesn't necessarily help you pay bills or feel purposeful.
We ache for help, right?
By the very nature of our existence, our realities are individualized.
It is our great strength (we are not a hive collective) but that sense you have of aloneness never goes away.... because, fundamentally, you ARE alone. No one experiences life how you do. Yours is yours alone.
I'll stop using them to make my work more efficient now, you convinced me that it's sinful and badwrong.
You can't use machines to skip tedious, mindless parts of your job. Humans have been doing it for centuries, but it stopped being possible recently because uuuh we call those "AI" now and that makes it bad.
They gobble up a shit-ton of other people's data and creativity, and turn out garbage mimicry of them.
Unless your job is to produce six-fingered gamer-themed toon porn or bad knockoffs of renaissance poetry....
While the pathetic emotional pleading obscures it, there is a kernel of an argument in there. It can be steelmanned to "AI is only useful for art".
Easily debunked by bringing up programming boilerplate.
In fact, A.I. CANNOT produce art, since art, by its nature, is a communication of existence.
An algorithm cannot be artistic. It merely poorly mimics what artistry is.
An algorithm cannot be creative, lacking sentience.
But thanks for your "pathetic emotional pleading."
"Fancy Autocomplete" less so.
"Random Bullshit Generator" actually describes the thing accurately.
You clearly don't understand this technology, so...
I built my first computer in 1982. I've been working with computers since. What if I do understand the technology and fully agree with malachi108?
So, now what?
Let me know if you'd like to use something other than the Appeal to Authority fallacy.
All you have is thought-terminating cliches and idiotic analogies.
Everybody is “AI this”, “AI that”, and when you tell anyone “It’s not AI it’s merely a LLM.”, they always treat you like a sourpuss or a technophobe.
Been working in IT for 28 years, in Cybersec for the last 7. Technophobe 🙄.
pattern recognition ✅️
It wasn’t until Boston Dynamics that the term even started to fit the product.
I, for one, am not ready to cede my critical thinking skills to a bullshit machine that some rich assholes invented because they're mad at the human race about "social skills" they'll never master.
However, I will say that the wave of total shit content coming from lazy fucking prompt jockeys is really starting to make it hard to find quality content.
