Later on I heard from farming charity RABI about the support they are offering to farmers for their physical and mental health.

@LibDems stand in solidarity with our farmers who have been through enough in the past few years, without adding insult to injury.

The legislation as proposed is terrible for quite a lot of small/medium farms. But I don't think a slogan like "axe the tax" will serve us well. There needs to be a considered nuanced statement on how the law could target real tax dodgers without taking down genuine generational family farms

It’s hard to have much sympathy for farmers who, mostly, voted for Brexit. The NFU did not take a side on Bexit which was a huge mistake. Have you challenged these farmers on Brexit Alex ?

Sorry, Alex. I can't agree. Whilst I understand the emotional pull of families passing their farm to the coming generations, this has little to do with how a commercial supplier (for that is what farmers are) is to be asked to contribute to the overall tax burden that supports our public services.

Farmers are screwed over by powerful customers, that's their real issue. The IHT loophole causes farmland to be massively overvalued as millionaires buy it to dodge taxes so it's now valued as a financial, not agricultural, asset. If it wasn't overvalued, fewer farms would come into scope for IHT.
