I feel like a huge part of this is because of the current social climate, and the growing stigma surrounding trans people and drag queens. Because I swear over the last 15 years, Disney has boasted about their “first openly gay character” in SEVERAL of their films.

Given how so many closed minded people believe drag queens just existing in public spaces is “grooming children”, if he did in this live action remake, they’d scream about Disney trying to groom and brainwash children. Which they already have been anyway with all these “first openly gay characters”.

Pleakley dressing in drag may have seemed like a little gag at first, but it’s a staple of his character and part of his lifestyle. And they probably only would have allowed it in the remake if he did it in a derogatory manner, which is not who he is. Disney only cares about money. Not love.

Again, I blame a huge part of this on our current social climate and how the current head of our government is actively trying to erase anything and anyone who’s openly queer.

I don’t think the remake is necessary, but he probably could have dressed in drag, had it not come out in current days.

The real reason y anyone should be upset over race swapping is simply because Lilo doesn't just take pictures of anyone, she takes pictures of tourists. Don't believe these other guys, Lilo n Stitch isn't about tourism 💀
