As a Brit I've always thought of American prisons as more barbaric and inhumane... just bad!Zero or v little rehabilitation efforts
So I looked up death rates in both jurisdictions... 0.06 deaths per 1,000 inmates in the US, 0.05 deaths per 1,000 inmates in the UK... Could do better
Is the point in the US is cruelty and exploitation. They get contracts with companies the states pay to warehouse people to be rented out as indentured servants to companies that donate to politicians that arrange those contracts as a kick back for the money they saved on wages.
& most prison companies have min capacity requirements so if the government doesnt lock up enough people they get paid more money for empty beds. Then real estate companies help because locking up homeless people keeps the fallout from their price gouging is hidden from view too & scapegoatted too
They always seem to "find" people unresponsive. What does the video footage show happened before they became unresponsive? And if there isn't video, what kind of deeply mismanaged jail would not have continuous recording of all cells in 2025?
