Watched that video in finnish earlier and it was honestly some of the best amateur OSINT work I've ever seen. The guy had a solid explanation for every stage of the incident. Not sure how the english translation is but at least the original video was top-notch

According to the (very little) background search I did before sharing his video, he appears to be an inventor who’s had a little ship for some 5+ years and has been a maritime student rather recently. Maybe @nereidi.bsky.social can verify?

Yes, he was a scientist in his earlier profession. A few degrees in maritime (first one 2013). Domestic one and two international ones. Although these particular findings need only Marinetraffic and nautical charts, actually anyone can do it. Without qualifications

That's the thing about open-source investigations: anybody can look at the data but making a coherent theory from all that is often much more difficult. And often requires specific knowledge from various fields, in this case about maritime stuff

I think it's difficult you drag the anchor for that distance struggling to keep direction stable and speed and being overtaken by other vessels and not realize you have the handbrake pulled.

However, I would have expected a polished anchor and wear marks from the chain on the bow of the ship.
The photographs from Kattegat indicate nothing of the sort.
My speculations: Stern anchor fitted in connection with the ship moving around before departure from Russian port?

We also have the issue of a partly buggy UI and Marinetraffic in some situations extrapolating over missing data. One should be careful in making conclusions from this.

The Eng voice over is quite bad, not the least because it misses many details. E.g., at 1:19 the guy notes that AIS destination changed from PSDEG(a port in Egypt) to PSD EEAL, which he can't identify and asks help. The Eng version speculates it might be in "Alger" but that's not in the orig video.
