Yes, they do. But right wing politicians and the media have jumped in as part of their culture wars; it makes it very difficult. The worst thing is that businesses are convinced they will lose business if people can’t drive right up to their doors. And then find they get more footfall without cars.

They do in this country. Where there are car-free shopping streets, people appreciate them, but forget they once had cars on them.
Similarly with #LTNs: people living there forget the junction closures done before they moved in ever happened (even though it might be part of why they moved there).
