Another Maintenance keeping me from taking more screenshots in the Harmony. π But while I have you all here, what did you call your ship, and why? π

My current main vessel is the USS Southern Cross, which was named after a Norwegian sealing vessel used as a science vessel during the British Antarctic Expedition of 1898-1900.
Like the sailing vessel, mine two is a science vessel primarily used for exploratory missions.
That is awesome, I love this. I used to want to learn so much about all the explorers from before my time. One of the reasons I have so much love for Star Trek.
most of mine are named after greek mythological figures
though im currently flying a sagan class "uss constance" named after everyone's favourite "dipshit from chicago"
My flagship is called the U.S.S. Endeavour! It's what I ended up spinning my channel around name wise. Endeavour was my favorite of the space shuttle fleet, and I wanted to continue its legacy into Star Trek Online!
And the current iteration of the Battista's Blade, the third ship to hold the name. Named because it sounded cool for an Orion pirate ship (though these days, she finds more legit work for the Federation Alliance)
The primary ship on my main is the USS Ryn Ch'Shukar, a Chimesh-class Escort. The name comes from the excellent @eomproject.bsky.social fan project, following the tradition on my main of naming ships for notable admirals, historical or fictional.
26 years ago, I ran a Star Trek email Sim/RPG set aboard the Steamrunner-class USS Firestorm. I had to recreate her in STO with a canonical-ish build, where she serves as my main ship.(While I used the T5 Blockade Runner originally, using the Appalachia with the Steamrunner skin these days)
The T5-X2 Blockade Runner is still in my roster, instead running the Appalachia skin. Named this one the USS Cascadia, since Appalachia and Cascadia are both geographic regions - I may have put more thought into the Cascadia's name than I did the Firestorm those decades ago.
Its one of those "I could talk your ear off" subjects, so be careful what you ask for!
The short version: While we used the term 'RPG', it had more in common with old-style chain stories. Player characters were members of the ship's crew, and we'd take turns writing using those characters.
Depends on the ship. I try to call back famous historical ships, as with the USS Piorun (Hyrda class). My main is Bajoran, so there are some Bajoran names, such as the USS Shakaar or USS Gaudaal's Lament.
My main is an Andorian and I just recently stumbled across "Emvaiir" (hope in Andorian). But I also have ships with names like "See me in Picard", "Another Soyuz" and of course the (in)famous "Wannebe Starship" (my best DPS platform)
T6X2 Lexington: the AFS Eternal Vigilance (fek'ihri vanity, to'duj fighters), Fed Klink captain, taken from both a quote from Picard to Worf in the Drumhead and Thomas Jefferson quote
I started out naming my ships after musical compositions (e.g. Scherzo, Requiem). I have so many ships now that I've started using surnames (or titles) of historic figures.
My main has a fleet of ships he'll saunter into as conditions warrant, but the day-to-day workhorse flagship is the Excelsior II-class USS Rideau Lake. It's named for where my grandparents built a cottage 60 years ago, and where four generations of my family have traveled each summer since.
All my ships regardless of what they are are always named after the man I love U.S.S. Ashworth. I have already gone through A - Z. My Garrett is U.S.S. Ashworth - AD. Hoping one day STO will become cross platform so we can play together as he is on PS and me on PC.
My Odyssey class is USS Leviathan. Back when Odyssey was new, the players often called it a "space whale" because of its size. Because of that, I liked the idea of naming Odysseys after mythical sea creatures. I kinda went overboard and did a whole naming convention π

My flagship USS Galaxy-A. Iβve written fan fiction (nothing Iβm comfortable showing due to bad experiences when I was younger) with my man characterβs father being the original Galaxy-classβs incarnationβs captain and I thought it fitting his son would command its successor
Pundus' art is as always amazing. That is a beautiful story. ( I am sorry you had bad experiences, I understand that. The internet can be a rough place sometimes.)
Awhile back, there was a bug that labeled every ship on the screen as "InvalidEntityName". As a consequence, one of my captains flies a series of ships all named USS InvalidEntityName.
Also the Fed-aligned Jem, Truly'Outrageous, commands USS Synergy. Yes, I'm old. π
I have lot of alts and they all have their own reasons for the names. On one main, every ship is a different small town in Michigan. On another, it's different areas of Japan. On my Rom main, it's different words in Romulan. A Vulcan has Epsilon and Eridani.
One day I realized that the Enterprise's registry somewhat matched the Space Shuttle Enterprise's registry number, so I took inspiration from that and put many of my alts in ships from the Atlantis lineage.
My Ship A advanced Sovereign Class Prototype Called NX-1996 U.S.S. Mara Sov in honoring of the True and Only Queen i will always Serve Mara Sov from the Awoken(Game franchise Destiny) and My Captain Yacht is Called Sedia in honoring of her Main and One of Her Techeuns(her Witches, servent).
Called my Jupiter-class the Blue Whale. I have a head canon that all the Jupiter-classes were named after things that are the largest in their class. Somewhere out there is a USS Everest, a USS Canis Majoris, and a USS Caulerpa Taxifolia :D
My 'mirror' toon's primary ship isa Kelvin Dreadnought named the Proditor. He named it both for his being named a traitor, and because he'd stolen the ship from that universe's own treasonous Section 31.
USS Pharaoh, Defiant class starship. Captain by Captain K'tarn. A character I first started to play in Star Trek: A Call to Duty and before that vTrek. The name is the name of his last ship he command in Star Trek: A Call to Duty. Down to the same registry number.
My main ship is the Zodiac. When I was a lot younger, I used to write sci fi novels and the hero ship was the Zodiac. My 2nd ship is the Braveheart, mainly because I'm a Scotsman π

but athena and hermes are a close 2nd and third
Named for the ship in Skies of Arcadia.
I would love to hear more about it all!

About a dozen adventures were such narrated over a 4 year span, before player burnout, real life obligations, et al caused the game to conclude.
I've been doing a deep dive into French navy history pre- and post-WW2, so slowly naming lots of ships after vessels from then!

Some are themed, some are not.
My Ahwahnee is the USS Miwok is one I can recall right now. I have 14 captains. Cut me some slack. π
