It's not about principle, it's about fear.

They weren't elected on merit, and they know it. A lot of people were simply anti Tory and voted tactically, if they voted at all.

Labour are now appeasing the right and far right because they're scared.

I agree that it is wrong in principle. And collateral damage from chasing those that abuse the system is wrong - leaving someone to die from starvation or the cold is tantamount to murder. BUT I am left to ask how the increasing bill will be paid. How?

There are so many ways this could be tackled. This is ideological - performative cruelty.
Much better to deal with the causes for the rises - eg by addressing Long Covid & Mental health, reducing waiting lists.
They could actually collect the taxes that are owed?
They could tax the billionaires ?

All of that has been tried, certainly on tax. It’s easily said and virtually impossible to implement. Billionaires are virtually untouchable in real terms - all countries would need to unite in tackling them and that won’t happen. So what’s the solution?

The uncollected tax, whatever the amount, has not been resolved after over twenty years of the war on evasion & avoidance. Atm nobody has come up with a beautiful solution. The closest I’ve seen is an Australian tax law that said it is illegal avoidance if the tax office says so, but allows appeal.

As someone who worked in tax avoidance, the efforts merely tempted a new set of arrangements. One famous VAT case got close to closing holes in the legislation but HMRc did not press on from there.

The Global alliance was suggested a few years ago. Going out of step can create a competitive advantage. But such an advantage should be tackled at least by trade rules - the WTO. But Trump has no love of the WTO. Why the U.K. should join that fascist led state I have no idea.

Exactly! Many, like myself, had no control over when my disability would get so bad that I couldn't work. I'd expected to be retired by now,on my state pension,not the meager ESA/UC & PIP I've been made to beg for. They have made a terrible job of dealing with this! Shameful to make so many fearful

Not even a year in and the Labour party have turned blue, and damaged their entire brand, which was "for the working people", its damaged faith in politicians, and probably pushed more people to vote reform.
They were doing so very well with Ukraine and Europe, does the bad outweight the good?
