I figured it would be Very Bad Overall and would harm my work specifically but figured the harm would be more gradual and spread out. My job isn’t in immediate peril as of today but I’ve gone from “maybe I’ll get laid off in the next 18-24 months” to much, much nearer term big worries.
Like, I'm still out here hoping there is a solid chance that we pull out of the nosedive before the entire thing crashes, because they are so economically incompetent that their own voters are going to riot sooner rather than later.
But it feels like a lot of people didn't even clock the nosedive
as soon as they hit the treasury payment system, it seemed like things weren't going to be great, but i was surprised by the speed at which they're destroying the government.
There is a mental block from so many folks, including ones that I had assumed would be paying close attention to what is being dismantled around us. Strange to see how disconnected folks are from the changes that will affect all of us.
The human ability to act like as ostrich is breathtaking to witness. People are so worried about being perceived to be difficult they don’t want to advocate for their literal lives. It’s *wild*. And I may be half awake but to a certain extent I’m among them.
