Depends on what you plan to do and why you want to be in it. If you want money, you want to be a director and you need to live in an area that pays directors well. If you're in it for the reward of helping families and giving people dignity for their final event, then yes. 1/2
I find it incredibly rewarding & I'd never want to do anything else. However, my job is custom made for me because I work for a small business that utilizes my skills. I'm lucky that I am in a dual income situation. Assistants don't make a lot and they have to work hard which is where many start.
