Wombat rescue underway because apparently I am not allowed a relaxing wet Saturday morning? Wombat is injured, smells like rot, and Bonorong has been called. Waiting for wildlife rescuers with big cages to show up.

so you're saying this terribly injured wombat just showed up at your place? despite the fact that it's literally crawling with non-native predators?
I wonder what kind of sign the animals put up to say "you're safe here, no really"
How do the cats get on with wombats? Like, out and about? I never considered them living near people! When you said it was injured I immediately thought 'I hope it wasn't on of the cats' then remembered how immense wombats are so thought I'd ask!
my take is they go where they'll be cared about, if they can find that spot.
also, have you considered that your kittens have some sort of long range radio set up that is set to broadcast to a channel only other animals and kittens can hear?
I'm in SC, US, and I know this is like me saving a squirrel or groundhog, but like...grouchy wombat might be my whole natural persona. Also, thank you for sharing this, because it's very cool to me.
We used to have a great vet (she left practice, alas) who'd just start laughing at us when she walked into the exam room with us and a cat she'd never seen before because it happened so often, heh
We were *convinced*, when three black kittens showed up in our laundry shed, that somehow our house had been "signaled" by the cat redistribution system.
(The vets and nurses also had our number: leaning over the carrier, saying, "You guys are gonna be so spoiled!")
Sitting outside, undercover, guarding a shed door while we wait for wombat carers to show up is not really my ideal Saturday morning. It's raining a lot.
Wombat has been successfully captured and is on the way to the vet! The wombat carer did a spectacular job capturing him, and getting him into a carrier. It was 0% drama and involved NO RUNNING which I love for everyone involved.
all I can think when I hear the word "wombat" is this video if Chris Hemsworth working out and he's doing like these bear crawls and while he's doing it his trainer is yelling
Do they have any ideas of how he got injured? Seems an odd place for an injury (I'm now reconsidering how wombats are in the world. I'm not sure what I thought they did, but being in our world seems odd! Do they get run over?)
I'm so sorry. With a stench like that this sounded very bery bad already. At least you and the rescuers wanted to give them a chance. Or at least a chance at passing without pain.
That's a lot.
I'm so sorry wombad.
We don't know how they got injured. But the wombat was safely transferred to a carrier and taken to the wildlife hospital yesterday. I'll get in contact with them later today and hopefully get an update.

But I made a cup of tea at least.
Thanks for keeping an eye on the critters. π«
Also we don't think this one is fully grown yet, but it's hard to tell in the spot they're in.
"WOMBAT WOMBAT WOMBAT"
That's a lot.
I'm so sorry wombad.
At least he got to curl up in a quiet, peaceful portable-cave for his last little while.
Poor little guy.
Thanks for helping this one.
I hope you get a relaxed Sunday morning.
