It’s already happening. I’m positioned somewhat uniquely in that my family is huge, so I’ve got siblings 20 years younger than me. They’re barely on social media at all. Too much hiking, guitar music, reading, and road tripping with friends to waste time inflating Zuckerberg’s bottom line.

Honestly, I'm more horrified that they seem to be receptive to government restriction and prohibition. I can't help but feel like this more a portend of receptiveness to totalitarianism than anything good.

All but guaranteed. Social media is a fluke of monetary policy that can't be maintained as it is with rising interest rates.

No cheap credit, no way to perpetually expand or maintain server farms to run all that data... and that's before you factor in chip supply shocks from tariffs.

That said, as new computing technologies emerge that allow for cheaper/smaller datacenters (so quantum computing), I could see a resurgence of something like social media.

This assumes no change in current regulatory policy around venture capital, which is unlikely.
