Your point is 100% valid, but comparisons to Fiat 126 aren't fair. This wasn't really a car and it was extremely unsafe for passengers and drivers.

I just received my first "well, actually" email on this article. Apparently all of the safety research - which included >682k crashes - is incorrect, and in fact SUVs are marginally safer than cars. I have no idea what this person's credentials are because they were too busy being patronizing.

Don't know if this came up in the research you're covering here. But the statistics that made me hate these vehicles was the spike in kids getting run over in their own driveways as they displaced smaller vehicles with better visibility in the US

Moving from US to UK, we definitely see far fewer SUVs on the road. There seem to be a lot more businesses that cater & deliver small loads here than we had in US.

That said, my husband (the Brit) says cars are bigger & there a lot more SUVs on the road here than he remembered from before.
