Redundancy. Having multiple single points of failure in a supply chain is TERRIFIC for balance sheets and income statements in the short term as long as things go well, but if something catastrophic occurs (guaranteed over a long time span) you are screwed without several layers of redundancy.

Redundancy does not show up on the balance sheet as an asset nor does it earn profit, but during Covid we learned how little redundancy there was across multiple industries/supply chains, as “just in time” supply & logistics thinking has absolutely no room for redundancy which generates resiliency.

To my mind, efficient redundancy layers increase resiliency efficiently. Bloated redundancy layers (to follow your example) would be where much waste can likely be found.

My concern is the massive amounts of water that is needed for AI and crypto. My family can’t risk money on uninsured crypto. Maybe I’m a luddite, as well, but I’m concerned about H2O usage & individuals that aren’t wealthy. I heard nothing about that.

#MMT is a framework which describes how money has worked for all of written history. Money has always been debt, writing was invented by accountants to formalize debt relations which is one of the foundations which enables large societies.
