So, the critics say it’s a money grab, but you lead with a girl getting hit by a car. Then the article quotes people who say distracted driving and cutting it close happens a lot. I grade the critics’ argument at 5 points and the school systems at 95.
Every single thing in our society is monetized to the millionth degree, but enforcing a basic and important safety rule to protect children is where some people have chosen to draw the line?
As a Traffic engineer I could not disagree more with this. Safety of our children should come first! HOWEVER, the vast majority of speed cameras I am familiar with near me have very little if any safety benefit. There is no regard to doing any safety analysis for the locations they are deployed,
and at least in my community the Trustees enacted the cameras to fund the police department after they mismanaged our tax dollars and effectively bankrupt the township. This is in their meeting minutes admitting to it. It is a civil offense in my state and not paying the fine has no consequences
Jesus fekkin wept @cnn.com; safety of children is important, and the only issue I have with the fines/tickets is that money doesn’t go to the schools which are obscenely underfunded to begin with.
Cool. Criminals being brought to Justice that are endangering our children. This is not a multi part story. You don’t have to give credit to the other side just because they said something stupid.
yes bus companies should out Cameras in the bus and everytime they stop and hit the warning lights the cameras become active and fine drivers money to donate to schools.
What do these critics say is the motivation to blow past the buses? And what do these critics suggest to curb that dangerous behavior if not by hitting them in the wallet?
Pedophiles who illegally seek minors for sex trafficking increasingly get caught by online sting operations. Critics say the technology is motivated by profit, not safety.
Not to worry, Trump will reverse that legislation so it won't be illegal. Remember he wants to get rid of crime in the US. And by removing all laws it will be accomplished
lol, this just in…traffic citations are apparently issued for profit and not safety. Poor CNN. Someday they’ll catch up to what the rest of us already know.
It's concerning how safety sometimes takes a backseat to revenue generation. Cameras catching these violators is a step in the right direction, but let's ensure the focus remains on protecting kids rather than just filling the coffers.

🤦
"DOES IT REDUCE THE PROBLEM" is the question, not "can I get some moron to claim it is profit motivated without evidence"
Stop being lazy, do some journalism.
Put the cameras in all cars imho.
If they don't stop, bleed them dry.
I get cut off in traffic multiple times a day.
It is shocking how badly people drive; would they want that around their kids?
If you can make it without getting hit. Congratulations. Remember how it felt and don't pass the bus.
If you get hit? Oh well.
As police and government.
