The story of transplants has always been one of altruism. After all, organs can be neither sold nor purchased. They can only be donated as a gift of life.

Yes, it's scandalous. And I have experienced the vultures swooping in on my loved ones, talking in gross terms about parts they'll take, in front of us. I've turned off organ donation for myself. I told my spouse he could opt in, but he won't be subject to the callous vultures.
Now I am no reporter for a national news company, but I have heard rumors that human organs can indeed be purchased and sold. Maybe someone who likes a little bit of an investigation could possibly travel to South America or China? Rumor has it that you can get a kidney.
And other organs as well. They harvest from prisoners who are death penalty casualties. I think it’s not as prevalent, but black market organ transplantation still happens.
Here in the states, we had an exhibition traveling around a few years back called “Bodies”
It was revealed that many of the pieces in the exhibition were actually political prisoners from China.
I’m in Nevada. We tried to see that when it went through Vegas but couldn’t get tickets. That’s not surprising. I have a transplanted kidney and pancreas and had people trying to set me up to go abroad. But I got mine in CA.
I’m glad that you’re well and that the system worked for you. The man who started that exhibit had been removed from medical school in Germany on charges of necrophilia. It’s quite the rabbit hole to dive down if you’re interested.
I bet! There’s quite the debate over selling organs to those in need and the ethics of doing that. People might have a different opinion if they’re on their deathbed waiting for an organ than not.
I’m very sorry for your situation and I hope that you find a match soon. I just thought it was a little stupid of CNN to gloss over the illegal organ trade that exists in such a cavalier fashion. My post was in sarcasm.
I understood the sarcasm (do that quite a bit myself 😁) - just contributing to the conversation that one should definitely be cautious for getting a kidney overseas. I have read of kidney transplant surgeries where when they look at the donated kidney decide it is not good so cancel the surgery.
I’ve read some horror stories of that nature. I’ve also read world war Z by Max Brooks. Between the fiction and the reality, I’m not sure which is scarier.
In other news, the story of Scott Jennings is the story of a man who debased himself for money after condemning Donald Trump's use of "lies and conspiracy theories" to foment an "insurrection."
Absolutely, it’s a profound act of selflessness that highlights our humanity. The bond created through the gift of life is unmatched, reminding us that in our toughest times, compassion can shine the brightest.
