Many retailers have issued warnings that they won’t, as Trump has suggested, “eat” the additional costs caused by those import taxes. That means anything from groceries and clothing to toys and cars could cost Americans more. https://cnn.it/3ShEE1R

Why would any private or publicly traded company "eat" higher supply chain costs due to Trump's tariffs? Did Trump forget that government control over private industry = socialism? I guess #MAGA needs a new hashtag: #MASA (Make America Socialist Again) 😅
The truth is Americans cannot afford to buy American. Therein lies the myth of tariffs. The world has moved on the US cannot turn the clock back to the 1960s or 70s no matter what Trump says or believes. Economic isolationism will only herald a world pain for America.
It's impossible for retailers to 'eat costs'. It's a competitive market, and they have to invest up-front. Trump is a felon who bankrupted six businesses. He has no idea what he's doing, and should be facing prison.
Business can only do so much and honestly why should they eat the cost of tariffs? Small business owner in Canada, most of our components ship through the US but suppliers have advised that they will show the tax on product so we can pass it on to the end user.
The same people who believed Mexico would pay for the wall believed the other countries would pay for the tariffs. Trump voters have the memories of chickens.
It’s crucial Americans describe the extra costs they are forced to pay as #RepublicanImportTaxes not Trump Tariffs
Because Republicans and Congress are responsible for tariffs, they could’ve stopped this screwing of the American consumer to help oligarchs like Elon Musk
How is the Federal Bribocracy working for the American consumer exactly? Wasn't increasing prices the reason Trump won the election or was it all about Biden's frailty?
VOTE BLUE FOR FREEDOM VOTE BLUE FOR AMERICA VOTE BLUE FOR YOU
WHEN TRUMP IS OUT OF OFFICE THINGS GET BETTER DUMP TRUMP AND HIS ENTIRE UNQUALIFIED INCOMPETENT ADMINISTRATION.
As if anyone with an IQ higher than a piece of warm toast, (and not MAGA) couldn’t have worked that out.
Anyone who works retail could tell you that they typically have a 25 to 30% margin, if that.
And if the product is rarely, if ever, on sale, it’s 10%, or less
The return on sales (profit divided by selling price) for most retail products is too low to absorb any of Trump’s ridiculously high tariffs. He can bully retailers to keep them from talking about tariffs, but prices will go up. Only 2 dolls and 5 pencils for you.
Of course not. They are going to raise prices now. Let Felon fall on the sword. Then when Felon backs off his tariffs, the companies will keep prices high to rake in record profits.
So much for Trump’s campaign promise of lower prices. Trump lied. What folks actually got were Elon Musk & his teenage assassins, along with higher prices & firings of thousands of workers. With no end in sight. Hold republicans accountable in 26.
Guaranteed too costs way more $$$. And the deal with China is not even done, expect that to fall on its arse as he will swing his tariff sights back to China next week and threaten another 50% because someone looked at him funny.
"...could cost Americans more". Costs WILL go up. Not just because of the tariffs, but companies will use the cover of tariffs to add in more because there's no transparency as to what's tariffs and what's additional mark-up.
Trump is the problem not the companies. This is a great example of your manipulation.
CNN....we blame you for all of this. The fall of democracy falls on main stream media. You've kissed the ring. And Tapper can shove his book, too. You sold your soul. #meidastouchnetwork

Tariffs are a consumption tax paid by you to pay for tax deductions for the rich that just passed the House. Now YOU eat it, that’s what Cheetos meant.
Glad I saved the Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, Legos and old fashioned tried and true baseball mits, basketballs and books. Dress up clothing went miles and miles too. Shopping is for boxes.
What had happened to the once, long ago, formidable @cnn.com ? This back and forth re the tariffs is merely theater. FELON4547 puts on the show of telling retailers to "eat" the tariffs he himself initiated, knowing they won't & retailers have a " legitimate" reason to raise their prices. Pathetic.
Another way of the Trump admin absolving themselves of any responsibility or accountability. They knew retailers would do this. Now Trump can tweet “Well, I told them to eat the tariffs! They refused. It’s very sad. Very sad. Biden did it. Lunatic left.”
It is the American people that will pay for Trump’s tariffs, and this will be Trump’s downfall, because if people pay more, Trump will be ousted! The sooner the better
This will come as a surprise to the dumbest segments of Trump cultists when they find out China didn’t have to pay for the tariffs. But guess what? You do.

First you absorb the hit. Then you seek accommodations from suppliers and or seek out new ones.
Then you raise your prices incrementally to bring your profit margins back to a rational level.
Businesses work for their owners or fail.

It is such a shame to see the US fall so quickly and so far.
CNN is the poster child for everything wrong with the fourth estate in America.

we got this
Nutlick said the tariffs have already happened and nobody is feeling the pain.
Apparently he’s never heard of companies “front running” or building inventories.
The increases are coming in June
and the rest of the year Nutlick
