It was the first year the federal government wasn't the sole purchaser/distributor. Manufacturers negotiated sales/delivery with health systems & pharmacy chains. It will get better over time, but it didn't work well this year for a lot of people.

Yeah, I'm uninsured so the booster was going to cost 140$ at all the places I asked (and a couple of them didn't even have it) the flu vax was 30$. I read there were places for the uninsured to get the COVID vax, but couldn't find a place around me to even verify if that was true
In my experience and what places have reported that was about cost and choice. It was risky to have to buy the COVID vax and people not get it- I think the expectation of enough people getting the flu shot is almost a guarantee.
Oh! That's why the covid vax website said there was nothing in my area, but CVS (half a mile away) did have it as available on theirs. I didn't understand why that was until now.
I think the persistent "Covid isn't really a problem anymore" messaging is a HUGE hurdle, too. Both the CDC and providers/insurers have sung a confusing and counterproductive harmony of "Don't worry about Covid" and "Here's the new Covid shot."

COVID shot requires effort, so it has to be more intentional
