We need to get on to this asap. In Ireland contraceptives were not illegal and were available but the Catholic Church forbade use. Doctors wouldn’t prescribe, pharmacists wouldn’t dispense so Catholic Irish women had up to 20 children in some cases. Why are public hospitals not providing abortions?

Contraceptives were illegal in Ireland and contraceptive pills were confiscated by Customs

Maybe we also need to look at Guatemala where the catholic church has made miscarriage illegal and young girls are serving life sentences.

I don’t believe they were illegal but no one (90+%RC) would handle them. Protestant women living in suburbs on the south side of the city of Dublin were able to obtain contraceptives. Disgraceful.

My apologies. Made illegal in 1935 until 1976 not that it made any difference to the people because the RC church forbade it vehemently prior to 1935 (very large poor families) and after 1976. Caused a lot of heartache.

The reason we must constantly be fighting for women’s rights, or First Nations’ rights or LGBTIQ rights is because they only exist at the will of mostly straight white men. Our rights and freedom can be removed at the whim of powerful men. That’s not freedom it’s serfdom.
