YES 💯 but all recent govts refuse to raise income tax. There should be a rise in the basic & higher rates of tax (not NI, so that pensioners like me will pay their share of additional income tax too), heavy taxes on the fossil fuel industry (& remove their subsidies) & impose an annual wealth tax.

We want decent welfare state absolutely,that can't mean we tolerate unusual, for Europe the high UK numbers on sickness benefits especially if they are able bodied,younger/middle aged. That's massive £billions going in mthly cheques & not training,skills or education & health. Public want scrutiny

UK taxes relative to Europe are not high -were about mid way. But Western Eropeans live longer, get quicker cancer care,had less Covid dead, have less inequality as we are highest bar Bulgaria except M25 magic money roundabout.

I think UK extreme inequality especially outside M25 magic money roundabout, compared to North,NE,Wales etc. The serious meltdown in Health Care after 14 Tory yrs,very high sick numbers, poor kids & high turnover of grad teachers,nurses etc, chronic housing crisis, shows a shocking state of affairs

Cameron inherited a world class National Health Service and managed to crush it; eventually Johnson succeeded in Government and oversaw £Billions being 'spaffed' away to cronies -The burden of Rebuilding the NHS should fall on the shoulders of those who mishandled their responsibilities.

Humanitarian benefits
